Our 2025 Book Clubs are underway! Check back often for new book clubs to be added throughout the year.
2025 Local Author Book Club
Featuring Austin and San Antonio based authors you may not have had the chance to read before, this book club is genre-non-specific. The only criteria is that the author is based in Austin, San Antonio, or elsewhere in Central Texas. We strive for diverse representation among the authors we feature as well as the genres represented. To join our 2025 Local Author Book Club at any point in the year, for any single month or all months, fill out this quick form!

A note on Bonus Selections: In this round, we've introduced Bonus selections for August, September and October! These bonus selections feature authors we have read in previous months for the book club, or are celebrating in other store events. They are some of our favorite local authors and we wanted to give our book club the chance to pre-order these new books even though we've featured these authors in the book club before! As for meetups, if we get a good number of participants and orders for these we will set up a discussion with the author! And keep an eye out, all three of our bonus selection authors have events coming up at the store :)

Lavender Sapphic Book Club
Sapphic Reading Group
Yes, we have two completely different Sapphic book clubs! This one tends to meet at 2 pm on the first Sunday of each month. Check in with Abby for the date of the next meet up. This group focuses on books of all genres featuring sapphic stories by lesbian and bisexual authors.
Lavender Sapphic Book Club meets at Birdhouse Books once a month and chooses their next book at each meeting. Books are pre-ordered through the store. This club tends to focus on sapphic fantasy stories. Follow @lavendergroupchat on Instagram for meetup details and pre-order links
The Read Whatever You Want Book Club
This is a book club with a unique format. As the name suggests, there is not an assigned book. You can read whatever you want and then show up to talk about it. Did you read five books this month and want to recommend them to people? That's great. Read a great magazine article or essay you'd like to discuss? Didn't have time to read anything, but would love to show up and get recommendations? That's great too. If you have a passion for reading and love to share, this group is for you.
